The finish is the first thing you notice in a pool — and the surface your body touches every day. So the choice has to balance beauty, durability, safety and easy maintenance.
Glass mosaic
Glass reflects light with real depth, giving water a luminous colour that shifts with the sun. It doesn’t absorb water, so it resists stains and algae. It’s the favourite for luxury and infinity pools, but it needs a skilled installer and a dedicated adhesive.
Ceramic and porcelain mosaic
Durable, economical and available in a huge range of colours — ideal for family pools. Porcelain in particular is extremely hard with very low absorption.
Natural stone
Stone brings a warm, natural feel that suits gardens and nature-inspired designs, and it’s often used for coping and surrounding decks. It needs an anti-slip treatment and periodic sealing.
Don’t forget coping and decking
Choose slip-resistant materials that stay cool under the sun, such as treated limestone or outdoor-rated porcelain.
Choosing a colour
- Light tones give a clear turquoise, like the Caribbean.
- Mid blue is the safe classic.
- Grey and black create a modern, dark mirror that reflects the sky.
Always ask for real samples and look at them underwater and in sunlight before deciding — colours look completely different inside a pool.
